چکیده

In this paper, we study the pull-in effect for rectangular electrostatic torsion actuators by using analytical calculations that include the higher order effects of nonlinear spring bending. The calculation approach speeds the design of such systems. The method is found to be suitable for actuators with single long beam springs where the ratio of the resonant frequencies for the torsion and bending modes is up to at least 3.5, in the region where bending dominates torsion. After fitting the theory in this paper to Coventor simulation results with three nonphysical coefficients, the fractional differences between Coventor simulation and analytical calculation results are smaller than 6%. The method is also suitable for at least one class of folded spring designs, with greatly decreased bending mode displacement. The main results are also verified by comparing them with published experimental results. [860]

A modeling and analysis of spring-shaped torsion micromirrors for low-voltage applications

An electrostatic torsion micromirror is designed using the optimized spring-shaped torsion beams and U-shaped groove supporters. The main advantages of this design will be a reduction in the pull-in voltage for low-voltage applications and the function as a switch of the instability mode by adjusting the effective bending stiffness of the torsion beam. In this design, a theoretical model is dev...

Nonlinear Analysis of a Flexible Beam Actuated by a Couple of Active SMA Wire Actuators

There are two different ways of using SMA wires as actuators for shape control of flexible structures; which can be either embedded within the composite laminate or externally attached to the structure. Since the actuator can be placed at different offset distances from the beam, external actuators produce more bending moment and, consequently, considerable shape changes with the same magnitude...

Nanometer resolution TEM sample manipulator for rotational and translational positioning

The design and fabrication process for a high performance manipulation stage for nanometer resolution TEM sample positioning over a 20 m range is presented. A two level, planar stage is moved in three translational and three rotational directions by just two types of actuators; three horizontal and three vertical combdrives. The vertical combdrives are suspended by optimally designed torsion-be...

Analysis of the Rotary-draw Bending Process for Thin-walled Rectangular Aluminum Tube

The Rotary-Draw Bending (RDB) process is a distinguished process employed for the precision cold bending of a hollow tube with small radius bends using Numerical Control (NC) machines. This research presents an analytical model based on the power law hardening model for the RDB processing of rectangular thin tubes. Based on the constraints of the tube in the dies and its thinness, the plane str...

Analytical and Numerical Investigation of Four-roll Bending

Four-roll bending process is usually used for manufacturing of seamed thick-walled and thin-walled cylinders. Due to complexity of this process, the analytical solution of plate bending in this process has not been developed completely. The existence of friction and multi-step processing makes it more difficult. Investigation of four-roll bending process using analytical and numerical methods i...
